The San Diego Art Institutes's primary belief is that the creative process is essential for a healthy quality of life. SDAI's vision is to elevate San Diego into a world class arts center. SDAI's programming goal is to develop artists and supporters of the Visual Arts through exhibition, education and outreach with innovative programs, first class facilities and selected partnerships that reach out to schools, business, government and our global community.
SDAI fulfills its commitment to these goals through a variety of efforts. SDAI's Museum of the Living Artist features a new exhibition of works by San Diego artists every four to six weeks in the 10,000 square foot gallery in Balboa Park. The large population that visits the Museum of the Living Artist benefits from the rich assortment of constantly evolving, recently created, original artworks.
With more than 30 exhibitions a year, artists are motivated to create and exhibit their new work on a regular basis. The competitive jurying process gives artists input for improvement and review.
Once an artist's artwork is accepted for exhibition, the artist not only enjoys exposure of his/her work to the public, but he/she may also benefit from witnessing the public's reaction to his/her artwork.
SDAI's in-house publication, "The Journal", chronicles SDAI's activities with its in depth calendars. It also lists artist exhibitions and biographical information, and describes all of SDAI's educational offerings. The David G. Fleet Young Artists' Gallery showcases artwork done by students at regional elementary, middle and high schools, while the "Outreach through Exhibition” series calls upon artists to address community issues in their art. SDAI consistently offers educational programming to underprivileged student populations on-sIte and in area schools, and offers discounted admission to students.
The under-served artistic community relies on SDAI for the support and training It provides, evidenced by SDAI's consistent membership renewal rates. SDAI recognizes the importance of educating artists, youth and adults alike, and making the visual experience of art appreciation a part of daily life regardless of age or economic status.
